Meet Sophie Lizard from BeAFreelanceBlogger.com

Any blogger can benefit from the skills of a freelance blogger and this is what Sophie Lizard of BeAFreelanceBlogger.com definitely specializes in. Not only does Sophie help bloggers write better, but she also helps bloggers and writers make real money in the world of online freelance writing and blogging.

1.) Please tell us something about yourself and how you got into blogging.

I am a UK based freelance blogger and copywriter with a patchwork past as a photo model, marketing manager and artificial intelligence geek. I started blogging in 2008 to advance my modeling career. I became a full-time freelance writer in 2009 and found that many of my clients needed help and advice to make their blog work for their business. I consciously shifted my career in this direction when I saw the demand.

2.) What is the main focus of your blog and why did you choose this niche?

My blog focuses on one mission: to teach writers and bloggers how to make real money from ongoing freelance blogging. I chose this niche because I don’t think anyone should blog for peanuts – if you’re looking to make money as a freelance blogger, you might as well be making * good * money! I’ve also seen that there are a lot of freelance blogs out there, and some specifically about writing online, but there wasn’t an obvious place to get information solely about freelance blogging. So I choose to create this place because if I was looking for it a few years ago, other people are looking for it now.

3.) How are you currently monetizing your blog traffic?

I offer one-on-one mentoring for freelance bloggers. This is a great way to get to know my audience better while making some money at the same time. I also get the occasional affiliate payments from promoting products or services that I like.

4.) What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started blogging?

Two things: blogging has to be about meeting the reader’s needs, and I can be paid a lot more than I thought possible at the time.

5.) Which three blogs do you visit almost every day?

Aside from client blogs, I spend a lot of time with MakeALivingWriting.com, FirepoleMarketing.com, and ThinkTraffic.com.

6.) Can you give us three recommended tools / services that you use for your blogging?

I keep things pretty simple: SocialBro helps me keep up with new Twitter followers, Trello is great for organizing my inbound and outbound guest posts, and I always check Flickr for cool Creative Commons images.

7.) What advice would you have for someone just starting their first blog?

Relax, because nobody is looking at it yet. Before you write on it, do some research on the purpose of your blog. Then give your audience things that they really need. And if you want to make the most of it, start building your email list right away.

8.) What is the best advice or tip you have come across since starting blogging?

Empathize. Everyone needs to know that they are not alone. So if you show that you understand them, keep reading your blog.

9.) If you only had $ 100 to start a new blog, how would you use it?

I would get co-web hosting and .com domain registration for a year and install WordPress.org on it. Then, with the roughly $ 25 change I had left over, I bought candy to fuel my way through the set up and customization process with a free theme.

10.) How can readers of the blog get in touch with you?
