The About Me – What You Want To Know Web page
The About Me page is one of the most important pages on any blog. People don’t read generic blogs. They prefer personal stories. You want to know who the person on the other side of the screen actually is. If you don’t know how to write a bio for a website, this article will help.
Short and on point
Often times people either don’t know what to write or they write too much information about themselves. You should keep your About Me page short and to the point, and try to provide as much useful information as possible in just a few words.
When they click on a page about me, people don’t expect them to read a lot of text. They want you to explain to them who you are and why you started the blog in just a few sentences. That’s it!
Most people start too early in their life story; They explain things like where they were born, where they grew up, what school they went to, etc. Yes, this may be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about writing a page about me, but let’s pause for a second. Ask yourself if people want to read this information or if they want something else more relevant.
Things to Write About Yourself
Most of the readers will be interested in the following information about you: where you live, how old you are (yes, some ladies don’t like this question, but that’s what people are searching for on google the most), what your job is and what products or services you offer. Additionally, they probably want to know how much experience you have in your field.
Of course, you can google some About Me blog samples for inspiration, but you should try to be unique. If your blog isn’t too professional (corporate, law, etc) then you can allow yourself to show your sense of humor in a few sentences. People will recognize and appreciate this as it will make you stand out from the crowd.
What’s in it for you?
People are too focused on their own lives and problems these days. They read your About Me page, but their thoughts are more about things they can get from you than about your personal bio. Sad but true. Hence, you can use your bio to subtly promote your services.
Most of the About Me blog examples contain statements like: I help people do this. I help people achieve that. And so on. This is a great strategy because now your readers will associate your services with your personality and the next time they think of you they will automatically think of your services.
Hopefully by now you know better how to write About Me pages. Don’t worry, you don’t need to follow any rules, all of the above is just a suggestion. You can write a few versions of your About Me page and then ask your friends to tell you which they prefer. You can even run some A / B testing to see which one your audience likes the most.
